Security
MoneyToolLab is designed to be simple, account-free, and low-risk by default. This page explains how we approach security, what data exists on our website, and how you can use our tools safely.
1. No Account Required
You do not need to create an account, provide an email address, or share any personal information to use any calculator currently available on MoneyToolLab. The Mortgage Calculator and Retirement Calculator are fully accessible without registration.
This means there is no password to protect, no account to secure, and no profile to compromise on our side.
2. Calculator Inputs
Calculator inputs — such as loan amounts, ages, savings figures, and income estimates — are financial assumptions used solely to compute and display your results. Where technically possible, these calculations run in your browser.
We recommend:
- Avoiding entering unnecessary sensitive personal information into any online calculator, including ours
- Not entering information such as full names, national identification numbers, bank account or card numbers, or passwords into calculator fields — these are not needed for any calculation
MoneyToolLab is not intended to store or handle highly sensitive personal or financial information.
3. Browser Storage
Some calculators may use your browser's local storage to save your inputs or preferences, so that your previous calculation is available when you return to the page. This data:
- Stays on your own device
- Is not transmitted to MoneyToolLab's servers by design
- Can be cleared at any time through your browser's settings (typically under “Privacy and Security” → “Clear browsing data” → “Site data”)
If you are using a shared or public device, we recommend clearing your browser data after using any financial calculator.
4. Shareable Calculation Links
Some calculators allow you to generate a link to share your results. These shareable links may include your calculator inputs encoded within the URL itself.
Please be aware:
- Anyone who receives a shareable link may be able to view the inputs included in the URL
- Review any shareable link before sending it to others
- Avoid sharing links that contain assumptions or figures you consider private
MoneyToolLab does not control how recipients handle a link once you share it.
5. HTTPS Encryption
The MoneyToolLab production website uses HTTPS (TLS encryption) to encrypt data transmitted between your browser and our servers. This helps protect your session from being intercepted on public or unsecured networks.
Before entering any inputs, confirm that your browser shows a secure connection indicator (typically a padlock icon in the address bar and an address beginning with https://).
6. Third-Party Services
MoneyToolLab uses or may use third-party services including hosting infrastructure, analytics, and advertising networks. These services may process limited technical data such as IP addresses, browser types, and page visit information in accordance with their own security standards and privacy policies.
MoneyToolLab selects reputable providers and does not share calculator input data with third-party services for profiling purposes. However, we cannot guarantee the security practices of third-party providers, and we encourage you to review their respective policies.
7. What MoneyToolLab Does Not Claim
We want to be transparent about the limits of our security posture:
- MoneyToolLab does not claim bank-grade or enterprise-grade security
- MoneyToolLab is not SOC 2 certified, ISO 27001 certified, or PCI DSS compliant
- MoneyToolLab should not be used as a secure vault for sensitive personal or financial documents
- We cannot guarantee that our third-party service providers will never experience a security incident
Our design goal is to minimize the data that exists on our systems by not requiring accounts or storing calculator inputs — and therefore to minimize the risk to users by not holding sensitive data in the first place.
8. Safe Use Recommendations
To use MoneyToolLab and any online finance tool as safely as possible:
- Use trusted devices and networks. Avoid entering financial assumptions on public computers or unsecured public Wi-Fi networks.
- Keep your browser and device updated. Security patches in browser and operating system updates help protect against known vulnerabilities.
- Review shareable links before sending. Check what information is encoded in a shared URL before distributing it.
- Clear browser data on shared devices. If you use a shared computer, clear site data after your session.
- Treat results as estimates. Calculator outputs are planning tools, not guaranteed financial outcomes. Verify important decisions with a qualified professional.
- Do not enter unnecessary sensitive data. You do not need to enter account numbers, passwords, or identification numbers to use our calculators.
9. Reporting a Security Concern
If you believe you have identified a security vulnerability or concern related to MoneyToolLab, we encourage you to report it responsibly. Please use the contact information available on this website. When a dedicated security contact address is established, it will be listed on this page.
We take all reported concerns seriously and will investigate promptly.
